How to use a butterfly stencil
- Choose a design. The simple outlines are best for beginners and small sizes.
- Print a few sizes on one sheet if you want a scattered wall pattern.
- Cut the black areas. Start in the middle of the wings and work outwards.
- Stick the stencil down with low-tack tape so the wing tips stay flat.
- Dab the paint on in thin coats and lift the stencil straight up.

Are these butterfly stencils free?
Yes. Anyone can browse them, and downloading the PDF is free with a free account. SVG and DXF files for cutting machines are Pro.
How do I do a butterfly wall?
Print the same butterfly at 3 or 4 sizes, cut them all, and work from the largest to the smallest across the wall so it looks like they are flying in one direction.
Can I cut these on a Cricut?
Yes. Download the SVG version (a Pro or unlocked format) and upload it to Cricut Design Space.
Can I make a butterfly stencil from my own photo?
Yes. Upload it to the photo to stencil converter. A photo taken straight on, with the wings open, works best.
